After spending a lifetime traveling Europe, Sandra Rojas-Chinni and Marcelo Chinni know a thing or two about European coffee culture. Inspired by the cafes in Buenos Aires, the couple decided to bring the Argentinean flare and attention to detail back to Toronto, opening their own cafe at 506 Adelaide Street West (just off Portland at Bathurst Street).
La Merceria demonstrates influences from Italy, France, and South America, with its sweet bakery smell and soothing Parisian music, the cafe is a destination coffee shop—the closest thing you can get to Europe without the travel time. Seating is limited, as the cafe shares its space with Sandra’s beautiful home and gift store. For this reason, La Merceria is best for the lone traveler, or a couple seeking a quaint refuge from the busy city streets.
The cafe proudly waves the Illy flag, meaning they not only serve Illy coffee, but they also pass Illy’s high standards for preparation and presentation. Open Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 pm, and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
